Days of Madness and Srbenka at DOK Leipzig

'Days of Madness' by Damian Nenadić and 'Srbenka' by Nebojša Slijepčević are selected to the official program of the 61st edition of DOK Leipzig. For both films it would be German premieres. 'Days of Madness' will be presented by the director Nenadić and the producer Oliver Sertić, and 'Srbenka' by Slijepčević and the producer Vanja Jambrović. Slijepčević, Nenadić and Sertić will also be part of the panel 'Post Yugoslavia: New Nationalisms?' moderated by the main programmer Ralph Eue. This year in different programs, the audience will be able to see seven Croatian films that is record year for our documentaries.

Nebojša Slijepčević wins Best director at Astra FF in Romania

At the Astra Film Festival, held from 15th to 21st October 2018, Nebojša Slijepčević won the AFF Award for Best Director in the Central & Eastern Europe Competitionfor his work on 'Srbenka'. The program's jury comprised of Dina Iordanova (UK), Cristian Tudor Popescu (Romania) i Simon Kilmurry (USA) explained their decision with the statement: "In ‘Srbenka’ we experience rehearsals that bring the audience into an intimate and at times uncomfortably raw and painful emotional space, exploring wounds that will not heal unless they are confronted with honesty. Nebojsa Slijepcevic skillfully explores the artistic process as a method for communal healing and shows that truth and reconciliation are tools that can bring closure."

While waiting for the official nominations for the European Film Awards, 'Srbenka' by Nebojša Slijepčević slowly coming to the number of 3000 spectators in Croatian cinemas and announcing some new awards and festivals. We just received a good news that the jury of Festival Signes de Nuit (Paris, France), Jacques PuyMarina Mazotti and Roshan Bikram Tahuri, awarded the film with Signs Award in the documentary competition. 'Srbenka' just had American premiere in the documentary program of the 54th Chicago International Film Festival, and Romanian in the Central and Eastern Europe competition at the Astra Film Festival, Sibiu. This week's festival selection we are finishing with program Heart Beat of big doclisboa (Lisboa, Portugal) as well as Doc Alliance Selection of upcoming Jihlava Documentary Film Festival (Jihlava, Czech Republic).

Four films on six festivals

Four Restart's films are this week on the programs of six festivals in Lithuania, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Peru, Sri Lanka and Croatia. 'Days of Madness' by Damian Nenadić is in the competition of the Cuzco Underground Cinema Festival in Peru, and later in the main program of Human Rights Film Festival Lugano (Film Festival Diritti Umani Lugano, Switzerland). Short school film 'Mum, why are you crying...' by Vladimira Spindler is in the short film competition of the Jaffna International Cinema Festival in Sri Lanka. 'Playing Men' by Matjaž Ivanišin is in the official selection of Vilnius Documentary Film Festival and also in the program 'Cinedocs', festival of central and eastern European film CinEast that is happening between 4th and 21st of October in Luxembourg. It will be accompanied by Nebojša Slijepčević's 'Srbenka' that will be also screened in the competition of our dear festival Dokuart in Bjelovar, Croatia.

Orbit awarded in Porto, September 3rd 2015 at 25 FPS

'All Still Orbit' by Dane Komljen and James Lettimer just received a Jury Mention at the Beast International Film Festival in Porto, Portugal. The film was competing in the category experimentalEAST and was mentioned for 'its meditate exploration and the atmospheric dynamic of geopolitical non-spoken and by creation of subjective landscape which invite the audience to join'. Beast IFF is a festival dedicated to short films from Eastern Europe.  The film 'September 3rd, 2015' by Sara Jurinčić made on the last edition of Restart's School of Documentary Film won Green DCP Award at the 14th edition of 25 FPS festival because this is the work 'that dissolves and skips film genres to face a personal trauma'.

The school of documentary film

The school of documentary film is taking place in Zagreb once a year and it is conceived as an intensive programme held by international tutors as well as those from Restart. They will be teaching the participants about basic and advanced skills needed to make their own documentary film.
