Three of our projects participating at Dok Leipzig industry program

From 26.10. to 01.11.2020, the 63rd Documentary and Animated Film Festival Dok Leipzig, one of the most important and longest-running European film festivals, will take place in Leipzig, Germany. Given the special measures caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the film program will still be shown in cinemas, but this year without international guests, while the DOK Industry program, intended for professionals, is moving into the online sphere. The production company Restart in the industrial part of the festival is represented by three documentary projects in development. These are: 'Cordon' by Anton Mezulić, 'Valeria' by Sara Jurinčić and 'Be Realistic, Look for the Impossible' by Vanja Juranić.

Srbenka in German cinemas

Feature documentary ‘Srbenka’ by Nebojša Slijepčević, after the successful festival tour and more than 20 awards, has its theatrical distribution in German cinemas, starting from 29th October 2020. The number of cinemas that will screen the film is still growing, but for now we know it will be screened in Aachen, Berlin (3 cinemas), Bochum, Essen, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Leipzig (2 cinemas), Mannheim, Memmingen, Mucnhen (2 cinemas), Münster (2 cinemas), Neufahrn, Neustadt, Oldenburg, Ulm and Wiesbaden. Selected cinemas will organise additional expert discussions as well as Q&A with the director Slijepčević and the protagonist and theatrical director Oliver Frljić. After the theatrical circuit, the film will be available on several VOD platforms. German distributor is Rise & Shine Cinema.

Speak so I can see you premiere at ZagrebDox

The feature-length documentary film 'Speak so I can see you' by Marija Stojnić premiered in competition at the coveted IDFA First Appearance program in 2019. This Saturday, Oct 10th 2020, beginning at 5 PM at the Teatar &TD, local audience will be able to get the first look at the film. After receiving the highest award at BelDocs just a month ago, ZagrebDox, which has prepared a special edition of the program because of the well-known health-related issues, Marija's film will compete amongst the best of the regional films. The film was produced and co-produced by Bilboke and Set Sail Films from Serbia, Restart from Croatia and Doha Film Institute from Qatar.

Winners of the 18th Liburnia Film Festival

Liburnia Film Festival, festival of Croatian documentary film just finished its mature and the first Covid edition, held from 24th until 28th of August at the Opatija Summer Stage. The Jury Miljenka ČogeljaDina PokrajacAndrej KorovljevVuk Perović and Hrvoje Franjić on the last day handed awards, chosen among 21 films screened in the competition: Best film of 18th LFF is 'Porvenir' by Renata Poljak (produced by REA), which also won awards for best photography (Boris Poljak) and sound design (Iva Ivan). 'That other Village' by Jadran Boban (produced by Fade In) won special jury mention. Karmen Obrdalj is the best director, and her colleague Aleksandar Jurić best editor, both awarded for the film 'Why is Mom Always Crying?' (co-produced by Art Academy in Banja Luka and Karmen Obrdalj). The best regional film is 'Faceless' (produced by Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb and Zebra Creative Network) by David Lušičić from Rijeka, while audience awarded 'Storkman' by Tomislav Jelinčić (produced by Antitalent in co-production with Slovenian Tramal Films and Italian Transmedia Production). The film received very high marks of 4,75 out of 5. Restart's tutors Ivana Pipal and Vanja Babić held another workshop for kids First steps in Filmmaking.

Cordon won DOK Leipzig Co-production Award

Our feature documentary in development, 'Cordon' by Anton Mezulić, won a DOK Leipzig Co-production Award at just finished pitching forum that was part of the second session of development workshop BDC Discoveries. Usually, BDC Discoveries is happening 'live' during DokuFest festival in Prizren, Kosovo, but due to Covid reasons, 2nd session and pitching were held online. An award means direct entrance to one of biggest documentary industry markets in Europe happening in October during the festival DOK Leipzig, where it will present on individual meetings with commission editors, distributors and possible co-production partners. The project was pitched by the director and executive producer Suzana Erbežnik.

The school of documentary film

Škola dokumentarnog filma
The school of documentary film is taking place in Zagreb once a year and it is conceived as an intensive programme held by international tutors as well as those from Restart. They will be teaching the participants about basic and advanced skills needed to make their own documentary film.
