As part of the 20 th anniversary edition of ZagrebDox<\/strong><\/a>, two masterclasses will be held at Dokukino KIC<\/strong><\/a>. In collaboration with the Festival, we will host the award-winning British director Marc Isaacs<\/strong> (along with screenings of two of his films) and one of the leading connoisseurs of the documentary genre, Tue Steen M\u00fcller<\/strong> from Denmark.<\/p>\n

Marc Isaacs\u2019 masterclass, titled Staging the Real and the Limits of Observation<\/a><\/em>, is scheduled for Thursday, April 18 at 6 pm<\/strong>. From the smallest details to some grand gestures, the director will discuss how he manages to transcend the \u2018banality\u2019 of real life, as merely captured by camera, in order to make the film reach the potential of cinema as art form. The masterclass will be followed by a screening of Marc Isaacs\u2019 film which earned him the Audience Award at 2008 ZagrebDox, “All White in Barking”<\/a>. It was the first film in Restart Label\u2019s catalogue, which started the distribution of documentaries in Croatia. In his typical, charming and fun manner, Isaacs challenges the prejudices and preconceived notions rampant in British society, occasionally reminiscent of Mike Leigh\u2019s comedies.<\/p>\n

Our second masterclass is brought to us by the great Tue Steen M\u00fcller, “This is Why I Love Documentaries\u2026”<\/a> on Friday, April 19 at 5 pm<\/strong>. M\u00fcller is one of the world\u2019s leading documentary film experts. Not only does he publish reviews and different texts on documentaries on a nearly daily basis, but he also works as a consultant for many renowned film festivals, educational programs and workshops. His masterclass will give an insight into the contemporary documentary production and discuss new trends on the documentary scene. After the masterclass, another film by Marc Isaacs is to be screened at Dokukino KIC, “The Filmmaker\u2019s House”<\/a>. When the producers make the requirement that his next film be about crime, sex or celebrities, the Filmmaker decides to make a film in his own home, featuring a cast of characters connected to his own life: two builders, a cleaner and a homeless man.<\/p>\n

Admission to both masterclasses is free, while tickets are required for the film screenings.<\/p>\n
