The Bosnian town of Bijeljina was once home to a cult figure named Harry Jackson, an amateur Western filmmaker from pre-war Yugoslavia. Artist and photographer Dragana Jurišić, with the help of locals from both sides of the ethnic divide, decides to recreate one of his famous films. Shared stories from a town still living with the legacy of war, the ghosts of the past are revealing.

Dragana Jurišić is a very well established photographic artist, writer and a filmmaker born in Croatia and now living in Ireland. She was cinematographer and researcher on the feature documentary “Get the Picture” (dir. Cathy Pearson, 2013) about the remarkable life of John G. Morris, one of the most influential photo editors of the 20th century. She co-directed a film “Home | Ireland” (2020), a 26 minute short film exploring the idea of home with asylum seekers in Direct Provision, commissioned by National Gallery Ireland. ‘The Balkan Cowboy’ is her feature directorial debut.
