About the film

The discovery of a forgotten family video leads a granddaughter/filmmaker on the other side of the world to reconnect with a mysterious island caught in the tides of history. The unremembered past revealed through her grandfather’s camera awakens her desire to find her way back to that point of departure.

Ana Grgić
Originally from former Yugoslavia, Ana Grgić is a nomadic traveller, filmmaker and writer with a passion for unearthing hidden histories. With a background in film and art, she is making her feature film debut about her family history after significant production experience (Rome – Season II, American Assassin, and the Academy award-winning Bohemian Rhapsody). Combining her academic and industry experience, she teaches documentary and world cinema at Babeș-Bolyai University. Having received a PhD in Film Studies, she writes on Balkan cinema and collaborates on film heritage projects (5C project, Archives in Motion, Feminist Film Heritage). Drawing on her book Early Cinema, Modernity and Visual Culture: The Imaginary of the Balkans (AUP, 2022) which received Honourable Mention at the BASEES Women’s Forum Prizes, she is currently developing a TV series on cinema in the Balkans through the perspective of the Manaki brothers.
