The Celts

About the film

‘Kelti’ (‘The Celts’) is a group of fans of the football club Bilogorac from the village Veliko Trojstvo. They are the only organized fan group in the First County Football League, and their other specificity is that their members are not residents of this village but of Bjelovar, a city situated 10 kilometres away from the village. Although Bjelovar has a football club which is in the higher rank of competition, these football enthusiasts give their sympathy to Bilogorac. The film takes place during one season and tells the stories of five prominent fans: Gogolj, Skols, Bubi, Čale and Matak. It turns out that the season which the film followed was a historical one for the club and the Celts, because they made it to the finals of the County cup, on which they played against Bjelovar at their home terrain.

Đuro Gavran holds a master’s degree in film and TV direction (majoring in documentary film) at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb and in design at the Faculty of Graphics at the University of Zagreb. He is the author of a dozen documentary films and two experimental films. The film Presuda premiered at the film festival in Rotterdam in 2013, after which it was shown at around thirty national and international festivals where it won a number of awards (Sarajevo film festival, Zagrebdox, …). The film 4.7 won the Big Seal in the regional competition at ZagrebDOX in 2016, and the film News from Laayoun won a special award from the Vaclav Havel jury at the prestigious One World human rights festival in Prague in 2017. He is also the author of the award-winning film One of Us. He also signs a number of children’s documentaries as part of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), as well as the documentary TV series Dobra ekonomija. He is the founder of the Pipser production company, lives and works in Zagreb.
