The festival of Croatian documentary film, the Liburnia Film Festival, co-organised by Restart, raided the City of Opatija from the 26th until the 30th of August. On the final night, a 5-member jury, Olga Dimitrijević, Katerina Duda, Daniel Bukumirović, Hrvoje Osvadić and Đuro Gavran, handed awards to the winners, decided among 18 films in the competition. The best film of LFF 2025 is “Peacemaker” by Ivan Ramljak (Factum). The same film was awarded by the audience with a very high mark of 4.85/out of 5. The Special Mention went to “On Cats and Humans” by Sunčica Ana Veldić (3d2d Animatori), and an award for Best Regional Film to “(PS)” by Aleš Suk (Ukus). The Best Director is Renata Lučić (“A Year of Endless Days”), cinematographer Magdalena Ptiček (“Field Trip” by Jozo Schmuch), editor Sara Gregorić (“My Dad’s Lesson” by Dalija Dozet), and sound designer Sebastijan Borovčak, who did the sound for his own film “Our Garden at the World’s End”. The Critic’s Award “Dragan Rubeša” this year was decided by Jelena Pašić, who assigned an award to “My Friend Sely” by Maja Alibegović. The festival screened 33 films, out of which four, out of competition, were produced by Restart. An audience saw our films “Learning to Walk 2” by Jelena Novaković, “Fiume o morte!” by Igor Bezinović and two films made in the Restart’s School of Documentary Film, “Spackling” by Angela Stipić and “Moving Images” by Tibor Đurđev. Bezinović, together with an editor, Hrvoslava Brkušić, and archive researcher Nika Petković held a special case study about how the film was made, simultaneously translated to Croatian sign language.
