“Third World”, a documentary film by Arsen Oremović about the legendary Zagreb band Haustor, distributed by Restart Label, is being screened in cinemas across Croatia from October 2nd.
The film about the band that shaped the music scene of the former Yugoslavia is a cinematic meditation on the relationship between the two contradictory creatives who created Haustor: Darko Rundek and Srđan Sacher. At the same time, “Third World” is not just a biographical portrait or a nostalgic reminiscence, but a mosaic of opposites that came together thanks to the magic of everyday life and the Zagreb that shaped them, whose spirit, contrasts and images are refracted through the aesthetics of Haustor.
Through open conversations, penetrating observations, a lavish archive and, perhaps most importantly, a new gathering of the band in the studio after forty years to record a remake of the song “Treći svijet”, the film revives a time when the album of the same name (1984) was greeted with incomprehension, and today is considered one of the most significant pop-rock albums of the former Yugoslavia. What began as a restoration of a lost dub recording of the aforementioned song turned into a document of the creative process, after the band members gathered in the studio almost four decades later. This resulted in the creation of an entirely new version of the song – a dialogue between Haustor then and now.
