How to trick Interpol and disappear off the face of the earth ? Answers to this questions Ieva Ozolina gets in her debut film, documentary My Father the Banker in which she tries to find her long-lost father, Latvian millionaire. She begins her search based only on Interpol's photography of the man who supposed to be her father.
The protagonist is Boriss Osipovs, formerly an associate professor at a university, specializing in alternative energy resources. However, with the dissolution of Soviet Union and following independence of Latvia, he took advantage of the newly emerged opportunities. During the “wild capitalism” in the 90's he quickly re-qualified for a banker and began earning great sums of money. Besides, he left his family, found himself a younger girlfriend, and began to increase his wealth also by the means of illegal financial operations. Once he became threatened by being arrested for the suspicious financial transactions, he quickly decided to leave his country. Nobody has heard from him since that. After the screening, there will be Q&A with director moderated by Croatian director Ivan Bezinović. After the Zagreb, Ieva Ozolina will present her film in Split, on October 12th in the club Judino Drvo;in Zadar, on October 13th in the club ACME and on October 15th in the club Prostor CeZam in Čakovec. According to critics, this documentary debut comments on quick transformation of Latvia from poor country in soviet imperium to country with all possibilities, but it just seems that way… (Filip Šebek, dokweb.net)
