The award-winning documentary “KIX”, a Croatian minority co-production directed by Dávid Mikulán and Bálint Révész, which follows the growth and transformation of the intelligent and lively boy Sanyi on the streets of Budapest, will be released in Croatian cinemas on November 14th.
After the world premiere at one of the most relevant documentary film festivals, CPH:DOX in Copenhagen in March, the Croatian premiere was held in the regional competition of ZagrebDox, where it won as many as three important awards: the Big Seal in the regional competition, the award for the best young author and the FIPRESCI critic’s prize. After that, the film was awarded seven more times at different festivals.
This 12-year odyssey follows Sanyi’s transformation from a rebellious kid from the streets of Budapest to a disillusioned teenager. Growing out of directors Dávid and Bálint’s unusual friendship with Sany, the film chronicles the evolution of the boy’s life marked by family struggles, school problems and the weight of the fatherly role he had to take when his sister was born. As he faces the challenges of adolescence, the filmmakers turn from active participants from the beginning of the film into observers, and the main character’s tragic turn forces him to face the responsibilities of an adult.
Cinema distribution starts on Saturday, November 16st, from Zagreb’s Dokukino KIC in cooperation with the Liszt Institute – Hungarian Cultural Center, when the screening will be attended by the director duo and Croatian co-producer Res Rajčić.
The distributor of the film is Restart Label in cooperation with the association Status M.
