Theatrical prepremiere of Restart’s co-production “The Investigator” directed by Czech director Viktor Portel will take place on Tuesday, October 17th in the eastern Croatian City of Vukovar, where the film was partly shot. Two days later, it starts the tour to other Croatian cinemas. Special Zagreb screening at Dokukino KIC, is scheduled for October 24th, and it will be accompanied by an online guest appearance by the main protagonist Vladimir Dzuro as well as the British detective Kevin Curtis and the legal council of the Documenta – Center for Dealing with the Past Veselinka Kastratović, in the cinema, moderated by Nikola Puharić.
In the film based on his book “The Investigator – Demons of the Balkan War and World Justice” (whose translation into Croatian has just been published by the Croatian Institute of History), Dzuro returns to the crime scenes in Vukovar and Sanski Most after thirty years and with the help of reconstructions, archival materials and witnesses, gives his perspective on the course of events. The film also features, among others, Dr. Vesna Bosanac, whose last appearance in front of the cameras, as well as surviving witness from Ovčara Dragutin Berghofer, Slavko Dokmanović’s wife, Danilka, and others connected with the war sufferings of Vukovar and northwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the manner of a crime thriller, it reveals the details of a tense investigation that, despite well-hidden traces and the restraint of politics, led to the persecution of war criminals, but not to the feeling of justice being served, because even after thirty years since the end of the war, “Hague justice” has still not brought healing to the wounds and compensation to the victims war crimes.
“The Investigator” is distributed by Restart Label.
