With the wish that the ground beneath us finally stops shaking, we enter the new holiday week on the volimdokumentarce.net platform with the biographical film THE LIFE OF ALBERT CAMUS, dedicated to this famous philosopher and writer, the author of The Plague and The Stranger, who above all wanted to face every earthquake and at the same time to remain faithful to beauty but also to those less powerful and humiliated. In this spirit, we continue our contribution to the maintenance of public and mental health with new doses of quality documentaries for easier survival of the consequences of the earthquake, isolation and finally – a happier entry into the new year, 2021.
This is how we send off the unloved year 2020 with gifts. The five most watched documentaries on the volimdokumentarce.net platform in the past year will be available at half price until January 6, 2021. If you haven’t watched the films Srbenka, Medena zemlja, Dubina dva, Selfie and Stieg Larsson: the man who played with fire, you can now. for only ten kuna with the promotional code DOKU-PRAZNICI.
The documentary film full of beautiful archive footage, THE LIFE OF ALBERT CAMUS, had its Croatian premiere at this year’s Subversive Festival, and tries to retell the short and energetic fate of this Algerian Frenchman and French Algerian – a modern classic, journalist, fighter, writer and above all a rebel who is his own definitively gained cult status with the Nobel Prize in 1957. Camus’s work has never ceased to be a subject of reader interest, and even sixty years after his death, it still provokes many new readings and discussions, as evidenced in an extremely interesting way by the documentary of the French director Georges-Marc Benamou. The film is available for a minimum fee of $3.
With the wish to make the winter at least docu-happy, Restart is giving all documentary lovers five of the most watched documentaries at half price with the use of the promotional code DOKU-PRAZNICI. We are talking about the films MEDENA ZEMLJA, a Macedonian candidate for the Oscar and one of the most successful achievements of all time from our area; THE SERBIAN by Nebojša Slijepčević, one of the most awarded Croatian documentaries in recent years; SELFIE, a funny and at the same time poignant self-portrait of two teenagers from the heart of the Neapolitan mafia, STIEG LARSSON: THE MAN WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE, a dox about the dramatic life and legacy of the fierce Swedish fighter against Nazism, better known as the author of the globally popular Millennium trilogy, and DUBINA DVA, a “forensic documentary ” by the Serbian director Ognjen Glavonić, so called by critics because of the incredible precision with which he confronts the topic of war crimes against the Kosovo Albanians in 1999, using a meditative and hypnotizing approach with which the director managed to give a voice to those who had not had one before.
In the second holiday week, we are extending last week’s package of five free titles. BIRD ON A WIRE, long lost and happily found, a biographical doc about Leonard Cohen’s European tour in 1972, when this legendary poet and singer-songwriter was still at the beginning of his fame. Its showing was stopped by Cohen himself, considering it too controversial, and only shortly before his death he gave his permission to director Tony Palmer to finish this film of rare beauty and never-before-seen archival materials after almost 40 years. There’s also CARMINE STREET GUITARS, a charming tribute to rock iconography and a tiny music store in the heart of New York’s Greenwich Village that resists pervasive gentrification.
Among the free titles are also OUR NEW PRESIDENT, a documentary that tries to point out the truth by showing a lie. Disturbing and entertaining, the film shows an incredible labyrinth of lies and absurd theories that rule in the era of “fake news”, using the example of the election of Donald Trump as the American president; the witty and insightful Italian doc HAPPY WINTER that exposes the social and economic context of seemingly carefree summer vacations; and SPLAV, a film about one of the strangest social experiments of all time that studied the sociology of violence, aggression and sexual attraction and soon became known in the media as the “sex raft”.
For all movies with a discount as well as free movies, you need to enter the code DOKU-PRAZNICI. The action lasts until Wednesday, January 6, 2021.
