World premiere of "Non-Aligned: Scenes from the Labudović Reels" at IDFA

World premiere of

Restart's minority co-production, the feature-length documentary "Non Aligned: Scenes from the Labudovic Reels / Dosje Labudović" by Mila Turajlić will have its world premiere in the international competition program at the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam - IDFA. The 35th edition of the festival will take place from November 9th to November 20th. In addition to directing, Mila Turajlić also wrote the screenplay and did all the shooting of the film, the main producers are Serbian Poppy Pictures and French Survivance in co-production with Restart and Montenegrian Kino. The film is also nominated for the special Beeld & Geluid IDFA ReFrame Award, which is awarded to titles from various  festival sections. Croatian team, along with co-producers Vanja Jambrović and Tibor Keser, are script consultant Barbara Matijević and author of the animations Dragan Đokić. The film was partly shot in Croatian city of Rijeka. Another Restart's minority co-production 'Between Revolutions' by Vlad Petri (Romanian Activ Docs and Restart) will be presented in the Industry part of the program 'Dok.incubator Preview.'

World premiere of The Investigator in Jihlava

A feature documentary 'The Investigator' by Czech director Viktor Portel will have its world premiere at the main Opus Bonum competition at the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival (Jihlava, Czech Republic, 25.-30.10.2022). The first screening is scheduled on the 28th of October at DKO I cinema at 5PM, with the reprisal screening, the next day at 12AM. The film is also in the competition for the best Czech documentary, Czech Joy. 'The Investigator' is produced by Czech Frame Films in co-production with Restart, Czech TV, Croatian Radiotelevision and Al Jazeera Balkans. It was filmed in Vukovar (Croatia), Beograd (Serbia), Sanski Most (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and New York in 2021. The main producer is Hana Blaha Šilarová, director of photography Šimon Dvořáček, editor Vladimir Gojun, sound designer Dominik Dolejši and sound recordists Filip Ledinšćak and Niko Gulam. In addition to the Czech crew, at the premiere, the film will be represented by the co-producer, Oliver Sertić and production manager, Suzana Erbežnik. As a part of the festival program Constellations, an audience will also be able to see our documentary 'Museum of the Revolution' by Srđan Keča.

Festival success of Babajanja

The short documentary 'Babajanja' by Ante Zlatko Stolica, after a special mention in Sarajevo and an award for best short documentary at Makedox in Skopje (Macedonia), continued its international festival life, crowned with two new awards. At the DOKUArt (Bjelovar, Croatia), the film won an award from the youth jury while the audience proclaimed it the best at the Mediterranean Film Festival in Široki Brijeg (Bosnia & Herzegovina). Last week, 'Babajanja' was screened at Filmska runda, a short film review in the Croatian town of Osijek and in the Panorama program at DOK Leipzig. The crown of the successful month was the Silver Eye Award nomination, an award for the best documentary from central and eastern Europe that will be given on the 28th of October during the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival.

So far, Kandahar at the Doclisboa pitching forum

A feature documentary project in development 'So far, Kandahar' by Anita Čeko will participate in the pitching forum Nebulae, an industry part of the international documentary festival Doclisboa (6.-16.10.2022, Lisbon, Portugal). The project was selected as the finalist of the industry program of ZagrebDox Pro, as a yearlong cooperation of those two festivals. After the central presentation, the director and producer Oliver Sertić, will participate in one-on-one sessions with potential international co-producers, commissioning editors and other participants from the documentary industry.

Open Call for School of Documentary Film - Deadline Extended to September 10th!

Call for applications for 12th edition of School of Documentary Film, generation 2022/2023, is open. School will take place in Zagreb from October 2022 until February 2023. Program will be held under guidance of various film experts, mentors and lecturers. Deadline for submitting applications is September 10th, 2022.

The school of documentary film is taking place in Zagreb once a year and it is conceived as an intensive programme held by international tutors as well as those from Restart. They will be teaching the participants about basic and advanced skills needed to make their own documentary film.
